The Max Shoulder Orthosis is an evolution of the SAWA Shoulder Brace and a major advancement in the design of shoulder girdle support. Designed to facilitate controlled range of motion, this two pound snug-fitting brace is proven effective as a functional orthosis with the added ability to support acromio- clavicular separations. As a range of motion harness, the Max Brace can be used for initial immobilization. However, controlled mobilization can be begun at an earlier stage to minimize the weakening of the musculotendinous unit caused by immobilization. "Rehabilitation can be hastened by early motion, which limits the consequences of inactivity." (J. Ciullo and B. Zarins; Clinics and Sports Medicine", March 1983).

In a 1988 study in Canada on major junior hockey players with dislocating shoulders, every player who wore the brace did not suffer a recurrence of his injury, whether the injury had been conservatively or surgically managed (based on a minimum three year follow-up).
